NBA commissioner David Stern announced today 1/22/2009 that starting in 2010 the National Basketball Association headquarters will be relocated to the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In a fierce bidding war the Bellagio finally closed with the NBA for an undisclosed amount, though the NBA is rumored to have given up far more than the Bellagio. The move was necessary, due mainly to slumping sales and ratings the NBA has suffered over the past few seasons.
Mr. Stearn was quoted saying "if teams like San Antonio and Detroit keep making the finals, we are going to go broke, something has to change." In a final quote from Mr. Stearn he actually said "I cant wait to watch Boston and Los Angeles in the finals this year, it's going to be a great year for the NBA!" A reporter responded but how do you know Boston and LA are going to make the finals this year? Mr. Stearn laughed and said "they are the two best teams of course, how couldn't they make the finals!"
